WATERSHED COMMITTEE: INFORMATION
Chair: Rich Pugsley
Committee Members: Rich Pugsley (Chair), Pat Hooyman, Joe Primozich, Tom Walter, Dan Selahowski, and George Richey.
In November 2021 a group of 8 individuals formed the “Friends of the Pentwater River Watershed” to support conservation efforts in the watershed. In June 2023 the group became a committee of the Pentwater Lake Association to enable it to submit grant applications within 501(c)(3) criteria.
The Pentwater Watershed is approximately 166 square miles in Oceana and Mason counties. About 22 percent of the watershed is composed of wetlands. This is a huge area and includes Pentwater Lake, the North and South branches of Pentwater Lake, Hart Lake, etc. Please see the outline below:
This committee works with some PLA members and also other people in other organizations to maintain the health of the watershed area directly. i.e. Oceana Conservation District, DNR, EGLE, and various personnel from surrounding cities and townships within the watershed, such as Hart, and Weare.
To help understand part of the watershed, please view the PP presentation below -
